Design Ethics

A long standing passion for traditional artisanship drives the creative finishing process at Colortone. We strive to create devices with an aesthetic appeal that hold a sense of the old and new, something unique, something re-found.

Colortone pedals feature their designs deep etched into unique hand polished faceplates, infilled with a black resin.

Products from 2023 also showcase the Colortone custom designed COG knobs and black silicon ‘Headliner’ Knob caps.

Sound

Always striving for the best sound, Colortone thinks analog. A good guitar pedal should enhance your natural playing characteristics and the acoustic resonance of your instrument. Whether that sound is gritty, harmonically overdriven, plain sweet sounding or just raw pub rock in character Colortone enables your sound passion with the ability to separate your tone from the frey of often challenging live venues.

Background

AD, Owner builder at Colortone, began his fascination with sounds and electronics working weekends while at school, in band rehearsal rooms and at a AV company soldering circuit boards. He then moved into Film Post Production for the next 30 years as a Feature Film colorist working on films like The Great Gatsby, Predestination, Jungle and music videos in the 90’s for the likes of Soundgarden, Sting, The Eurythmics, The Pretenders, Brian Ferry and Simply Red.

In 2018 AD returned to his first passion and started building his own pedals after joining a new band with the first Colortone pedal becoming available in 2019.

Environment

Colortone attempts where possible to use sustainable techniques and parts suppliers. The etching process used is regenerative and therefore much less damaging to the environment. Packing suppliers use sustainable products and parts suppliers are asked not to use plastic packaging.
